Abstract

Our paper aims to identify the direct and indirect effects of despotic leadership style on employees' innovative behavior in businesses located in Ho Chi Minh City, mediated by employee well-being. We employed a convenience sampling method and conducted an online survey with 350 employees from various businesses in Ho Chi Minh City. SmartPLS 3 software was used to analyze the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to test the hypotheses in our model, with a final sample of 308 valid responses. The results show that despotic leadership style has a negative and significant relationship with employees' innovative behavior. Furthermore, employee well-being plays a positive mediating role in the correlation between despotic leadership and innovative behavior. Finally, we offer several theoretical and practical contributions as valuable references for businesses in Ho Chi Minh City to enhance employees' innovative behavior while mitigating the negative impacts of despotic leadership.
